1. Jack Danforth was the Attorney General at the time the radioactive wastes were illegally dumped at West Lake Landfill. He could have sued to have them immediately cleaned up! Think of what ALL our lives would be like if he had? But he did NOTHING!!
2. Sen. Jack Danforth was a Missouri Senator at the peak of his career when in 1990 RECA was first created and introduced! He voted for it. BUT- he made absolutely no attempt to add Missouri or advocate for our region to be included!
3. NEVER once in the decade plus we have all been working on it did former Senator Jack Danforth lift a finger to help any of us for any of the radioactive waste sites! No op-Ed’s in favor of a clean up at the Landfill or signs along Cold Water Creek! No letters of concern about a high school sitting 1000 feet from a uranium processing plant out at Weldon Springs!
In closing- Former Senator Jack Danforth did a really disgusting, careless thing yesterday by making these regional radioactive waste issues political and playing Monday Morning Quarterback with not just Senator Hawley, but all of our advocacy including all the Democratic support we have built and who are part of this coalition from other impacted communities. He weaponized this issue and tried to give Speaker Johnson, who is the real reason RECA has not passed, a pass and excuse! Karen and I have watched many elected officials from both political parties get angry, emotional, frustrated etc. when advocating in DC and Jeff City for these issues! How could they not!? How hard do you think it is for them and their staff to print out large poster board images (the get permission from the family first) of all of our sick, dying, and passed on loved ones and watch Billions of $$$ be spent on everyone else!? Or sit back and watch the Department of Energy brag about green energy and then act like they didn’t poison an entire region in Missouri! It’s very hard- ask Congresswoman Cori Bush how hard that was!! Karen and I have always said the hardest thing we do is to try and keep this issue non political- and former Sen. Danforth managed in one day to carelessly rip that away! Now we are placed in a position where we are defending our Senator’s and our regions/community’s advocacy on this issue just like we would and have had to do with others such as Congresswoman Cori Bush! So now we as a community and a region have several barrier’s to remove with this one comment! And we need and are asking for your help to do it. Please help if you can by sharing this post and sharing the message- KEEP POLITICS OUT OF THE RADIOACTIVE WASTE ISSUES IN MISSOURI!!
